Cosmographia App Reviews

Pretty Cool

Still think Solar Walk is better but this one is impressive as well. I dont feel like I wasted $10 on this but Im a space nerd!

Innovative and Amazing!

This is the greatest program Ive used, to interact with the Solar System. It has lots of cool add-ons to explore, along with different asteroids, planets and sattalites to view. Anyone with the slightest interest in Astronomy will love this, anyone else will simply enjoy it. This app helps people understand our solar system and the workings within it. You can actually zoom incredibly close to earth and see it rotating (even speed it up) before your very eyes. I dont want to give it all away, so Ill just finish with this. In a world where science and technology is ever increasing, its paramount that we, (lay people) understand it or atleast appreciate the work and acheivments done by our scientists. If we are to find an answer to the questions weve been searching since we ventured out of the caves, to continue the advancement of our species, we must nurture and generate interest that we have in Science. This app does just that. Worth every penny.

Gorgeous

What a wonderful surprise to see the high quality of this app. congratulation it is so powerful to sit down and look the revolution of any planet and see where we are on this Universe worth the little money and it is easy ans fun

3/5

This app has great visuals, very detailed and informative as well as fun to explore. However, when I approach certain objects it freezes causing me to re-start my mac. This problem makes it hard to fully enjoy this app and does get annoying. Such a great app with a minor problem, if this problem was fixed it would make this THE greatest space related app in the app store, easily make it 5/5 and worth every penny.

Perfect!

This app is awesome! Wayy more than what I thought! This is a must-have for every space nerds!

An informative and beautiful app.

This is a very beautiful app equally good for children, space enthusiasts and other people who just want some general knowledge. At a price of $1.99, its nothing.

Good, could use some updates

I paid a lot more than $2.00 for this app this was several months back though, and I think it is mostly great. It needs updates though. First off, some of the planetary textures are poor. Really low resolution. Mars is a perfect example of this. Try zooming in and you will see dissapointingly low amounts of detail. Second, where are the popular current missions? I can go to the Nasa Eyes On The Solar System website and see positions of active space missions, plus some gorgeous models. Last night Curiosity landed on Mars, but using Cosmographia, you would never know this mission existed, on a free website I can see the heatshield detach and watch the skycrane lower it to the ground. Maybe not a fair comparison, but it would be nice if Cosmographia included some of these missions.

Poor texture!

All planets, all of a sudden, have poor texture. Earth for example used to have very good texture but now when i zoom even little bit in, it get pixelated. I think after I updated my macbook, something went wrong. I tried it on my iMac aswell and same thing happened. The texture is broken on newer macs and OSX, please fix.

crashed

Crashed. Thanks to Cosmographia I force off my new i5 Air first time… I went to Voyager I, and it is locked, cant log out, can not quit… Also forcing the processor to much… I am sorry, I request my money back, Because I can not use it !!

nice exploration/interaction

I really appreciate the graphics and the interaction mechanisms to explore the solar system. Fortunately I have a system that I can set the graphics all to high, and the graphics look fantastic. Very nice.

Brilliant work!

This is a work of art, an application that combines rigorous science and data with beautiful graphics and a keen eye for detail.

Education!

Within two days of buying this app I was able to show an inquisitive neighbor what it means to say that Jupiter will be at opposition in late 2012, and also to show him how it is that Mercury and Venus can be both morning and evening "stars" at various times. He was impressed and I am impressed. The app has lovely graphics and (so far as I have seen) excellent accuracy. Cosmographia is practically a necessity for parents who want their children to have an edge on 99% of the population through possession fundamental knowledge of the World. I think that Cosmographia is underpriced. It is unfortunate that people have come to expect small developers to practically give away their software--especially a piece of software as complex and excellent as Cosmographia. I fear for genius if it is not amply rewarded.

Great app!

Cosmographia is a great solar system simulation! The graphics are phenomenal, and theres tons of information. You can play around with dates to see how things looked in the past or how things will look in the future. Past, present, and future Eclipses as well as other astronomical events can be watched right from your computer! You can follow planets, moons, asteroids, and satellites along their courses, altering speed as you go. Its fun to be able to see where satellites on current missions are located, where they will be, and where they have been exactly. Its also great to record quicktime movies with. I really recommend Cosmographia to anyone with an interest in Astronomy, or someone who just wants to look at some great graphics and enjoy observing the world we live in. **New Update V 1.1.0: The new update is great! It functions very well, and the new maps, missions, and objects are very cool!**

Amazing!

This app is truly amazing. For $10 you get a real time solar system with high-end graphics that you could explore on your own. From planets, moons, and even satellites and other spacecraft, see everything in their current location in the solar system, even speed up time years from now, or go back in time! Very, very cool. I was a little hesitant at first to buy it, but its a lot of information and fun exploration for a very cheap price. Im sure this would work well in education for astronomy classes very well. If you love space, planets, satellites, do not hestiate. Its awesome!

high-res images not working

The high-res imagery of earth is currently not working and dependent on a nasa website.

Ehhhhhh......

Not really worth $10. Nothing special about it, just a 3D model of the solar system and some interesting facts about the objects (planets, asteroids, moons, etc). Please update with more expansive objects than just the solar system and it might be a more worthy purchase/download.

Wow!

When my 24” iMac 6,1 arrived toting a GeForce 7600GT GPU some years ago, I had in mind ever more immersive cosmological experiences running on the Mac that really pushes the iron and the software to its very limits. Yes, Cosmographia runs fine on my older Mac. And, thanks be to Apple for finally shipping an updated nVidia driver 1.6.36 with Mac OS X 10.6.8 and to the developer for some deft use of floating point 3D textures in OpenGL that make Cosmo’s sleek atmosphere renderings possible. btw, NASA’s earth server is back online as of this writing. With geysers on Enceladus, the Voyager missions, and additional tuning of atmosphere renderings on tap, Cosmographia is shaping up to be a must own.

Misleading!

If you want to pay $10 for an app that is nothing but an overcomplicated virtual solar system that doesnt do what it says it does, then by all means waste your $10 like i just did! By the way, the "5 Star" reviews had to have been written by the developers.

Tons of fun!

Super fun! Turn on all the extras and its better. Look forward to more updates as version 1.1.0 doesnt have any info for the Hubble telescope besides "spacecraft," as an example. Also would be super if you could learn more about extrasolar objects. Great app though.

Dont Buy

Waste of money, app is very simple and misleading.
