Cosmographia App Reviews

Great Support

This app is incredible. The detail is amazing whether the planet you want to look at is Earth, Jupiter, or anything in between. I find it amazing how the parts of the planet are accurately lit depending on the time of day in the actual area. You can go back in time and watch any sunset ever, and the view is incredible. I had a few minor problems when i first downloaded the app, but I emailed the dev. and they got back fast and was super helpful. (I was pretty unexperienced with an app like this.) All of my questions were answered promptly. (Even at 2:30am XD.)

Pretty darn good

This is a wonderful application. I gave it four stars only because its not perfect (gee!). Theres plenty here to learn from and enjoy.

Not Cheap. (in a good way)

Cosmographia is as beautiful as it is entertaining. One feature I fell in love with is the add-ons, which can be used to witness important events in space, and track GPS satellites in orbit. Though there are far cheaper solar-system simulators, this one seems to provide the best design, aesthetics, and UI.

Save Your Money

This app looks neat at first but once you get moving around the solar system you quickly realize that theres not much depth. Id say this app shouldve been priced around $1.99 at most.

Could be so much more...

The pictures are pretty, but I would like to right click on a planet, or object to find basic information in one spot. For example; what is the planet made of? How many moons? does it h have an atmosphere? How far from Earrth (since we live here)? Does it have an atmosphere? What do we know about any particular moon or a star? Im sure adding a dialog box with nine or ten facts would make the app more enjoyable and educational. Im a grandfather who would love to show it to my grandchildren, and get a bit more than just pretty pictures. Just basic information would be nice. Good start, but looking forward to future versions.

Beautiful!

This app is absolutly beautiful!!! Thank you so much creating this!!! Love you! <3

Very Buggy

With all of the power in my MacBook Pro, this app still manages to crash it! It looks like it would be interesting, but now Im afraid to launch it. The developer has to work out the bugs or its definitely not worth the money. I have to do a hard shut down every time I use it, no way to force quit. Im pretty disappointed becauae I was looking forward to using this app.

expensive for what?

way too expensive. pics are nice up close but please

Excellent tool to explore the Solar System

Easily the best astronomy app avaliable in the Mac Store. Far superior and more accurate than the much hyped Solar Walk or the broken Celestia rip off, Cosmic Crawler. Amazing depth with an easy to use interface.

Slow app, print too small waste

This app uses a lot memory, have to keep closing and reopening it to navigate to different places in the solar system. The print in the info portions is too small and cant be adjusted and this app doesnt give a lot of update info. I am much happier with SkySafari and SolarWalk, I would recommend getting all 3 if you can but I give this one star and the other 2 apps 5 stars, more info in the encyclopedia entries and easier to navigate.

Phenominal software. Responsive developer.

Update: This software and the developer continues to amaze. I wrote an email to the developer requesting some information about getting the MSL (otherwise known as Curiosity) cruise phase displayed so I could follow its progress to Mars. Within 24 hours I was provided sufficient information to be able to display the cruise phase trajectory in Cosmographia. With just a little more research, I figured out the arrival time on Mars next August, and set the date and time for the entry period. Cosmographia accurately showed the MSL entering the atmosphere exactly on time. Being able to go for a ride and watch the process was very educational...especially seeing the full trajectory path. My little 4-year old loves this program, and now knows all the planets and their locations. She enjoys traveling from planet to planet, and almost on a daily basis wants to look around our solar system. I cant wait to see what new stuff will be arriving with new updates. Keep up the great work!! ***************** Previous Review**************** I got this app because it looked sorta cool...I expected it would be a great 3D representation, but what I did not expect was the level of detail built in. I decided to take a visit to Saturn for my daughter so she could see the rings. We saw that...but what I noticed was a shadow cast on the cloud tops that was obviously from a moon. I presumed it was something captured for the planet texture, but when I sped up the timeline, I realized that the satellite moon shadows are dynamically produced, the ring shadows correctly move across the surface as the planet moves around the sun. The slightly transparent aspect of the rings are correctly shown, and Saturns shadow cast over the rings are dynamic. The 3D view gives amazing perspectives, and the asteroid belt, when turned on with the 3D effect just blew me away. Well done app! Simply amazing! I look forward to seeing all the other gems and details that are built in!

same features, higher price?

This app is useful to teach about solar system to kids. but same as solarwalk for mac. and i had to pay $3 more.

Still bad

This looked like a good app but they are so wrong. Do not buy this app! On most of the planets it only shows up as a white ball. STILL!!! I dont care what it shows on their pretty pictures it is all wrong. Such a waste of money. If anyone wants to get some real information check this app out its great (Shysafari) that is information and it gives real pictures! Please save yourself the money to buy something good.

Cosmic Brilliance !

This app seriously hasnt got the credit it deserves. Being able to easily navigate through real time space with a plethora of options such as viewing constellation and star names, planet orbits, current satellites, as well as clouds, reflections, and other awesome options. For anyone serious about understanding the Order of the Universe, this is a must buy at a reasonable price.

I love the app!

Thanks for making the app even better! lots of new cool features,AMAZING graphics, helpful informations! Works Great!

Beautiful

Great app with stunning graphics. If youve got a new-ish Mac, turn on anti-aliasing and enable the Milky Way background and youll want to just leave this app running in the background as you go about your other tasks. Speed up time, and center the earth on your screen, bring up some ambient music in iTunes, then sit back and enjoy. And I love the iPad version. My 4 year old is learning tons from it.

Unusably slow on Retina Macbook

I really like this program and wish I could say something better about it. After upgrading to Retina Macbook (OSX 10.8.2) it still crashes and/or freezes my system (force quit wont work) and is now unusably slow in addition. Automatic graphics switching is disabled, I even created a new account on my notebook to prevent it from reading any old configuration data. Sadly, nothing I tried helps. => great concept, severe technical problems at least for me Please provide a fix soon. I will rate it 5 stars if you do.

Unbearably slow

Great idea and love the concept but no matter what I do including disable all the special effect it is still way too slow. Its like playing Battlefield 3 at 10fps. I have a Retina Mac Book pro with 16 gigs of ram. It should be able to handle this with ease, somthing is wrong with the coding… Pleas fix and I will rate higher.

Beautiful graphics, APP works great

Works great on my iMac 27" of 2010. Beautiful graphics!

Please Fix Preformance for Retina MacBook

I have a 15 macbook pro retina with a 2.6 GHz i7. The program is chugging at an ubearable 2 fps. I couldnt imagine that the problem is that my mac is to slow or is not fast enough since it is new and has even a faster processor than my old macbook (on which is ran pretty well by the way). I love the program, but completly unusable. PLEASE FIX IT!
